Clinic Visits
In March 2020 as part of our COVID-19 response, the Alberta Hip & Knee Clinic made the
difficult
but necessary decision to reduce in person visits to the clinic. Over the course of the last
several weeks, we have seen drastically reduced patient volumes in the clinic, limiting those
visits to only absolutely essential postoperative consultations. In the meantime, we have worked
hard to adapt and build capacity to offer virtual visits by phone or video. We will continue to
expand this program and offer more broadly as needed.
Additionally, on March 18, 2020, Alberta Health Services announced that all scheduled and
elective surgeries were to be postponed. This included elective total hip and knee replacements.
In early May, work began to begin reopening operating rooms to accommodate a small number of
total joint replacement surgeries. The Alberta Hip & Knee Clinic is working closely with Alberta
Health Services to schedule these procedures. Patients will be contacted directly when a surgery
date is available. Patients will be rebooked as soon and as fairly as possible.
As Alberta begins to reopen, we are working closely with our partners at Alberta Health
Services
to safely reopen the clinic to more patients. Those waiting for a consultation with a surgeon or
for a surgery date will be contacted as soon as possible with a date. We have worked diligently
to track patient cancellations and your original spot in the queue has been maintained.
We appreciate your patience. The above is subject to change at any time as the COVID-19
situation
develops. For the most up to date information regarding COVID-19, please visit
